Generative AI Policy
Generative AI Policy
The Integrated Journal of Artificial Intelligence & Data Science (IJAIDS) recognizes the growing role of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in academic research and scholarly publishing. The journal permits responsible use of these technologies while maintaining academic integrity, transparency, originality, and human accountability.
1. General Principles
Generative AI tools may be used to support certain research and writing activities. However, their use must not compromise the originality, accuracy, reliability, or ethical integrity of a manuscript. Authors, reviewers, and editors remain fully responsible for their respective contributions and decisions throughout the publication process.
2. Use of Generative AI by Authors
Authors may use Generative AI tools to assist with activities such as:
- Language improvement, grammar correction, and spelling checks.
- Improving readability, clarity, and academic writing style.
- Supporting literature exploration and organizing research ideas.
- Assisting with coding, data processing, and technical workflows.
- Generating or refining research-related materials, where scientifically and ethically appropriate.
Authors must carefully review and verify all AI-generated or AI-assisted content before including it in a manuscript. Authors remain responsible for the accuracy of information, validity of references, originality of the work, and proper interpretation of research findings.
Generative AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot take responsibility for the work, approve the final manuscript, or fulfill authorship requirements.
3. Disclosure Requirements
Authors must disclose the use of Generative AI tools when such tools have contributed to the development of manuscript content, research design, data analysis, interpretation, or other substantive research activities.
The disclosure should identify the tool used, its purpose, and the extent of its contribution. Where relevant, authors should also describe the AI-assisted procedures in the Methods section.
Basic spelling, grammar, and reference-management tools do not generally require a separate declaration when they are used only for routine language or formatting assistance and do not generate substantive scholarly content.
Example of an AI-use declaration:
"During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [name of AI tool] for [specific purpose]. The authors reviewed, verified, and edited the generated content and take full responsibility for the final manuscript."
4. Prohibited Uses
The following uses of Generative AI are not permitted:
- Fabricating or falsifying research data, results, references, citations, or evidence.
- Presenting AI-generated content as original human research without appropriate verification and disclosure.
- Using AI-generated references that do not exist or cannot be independently verified.
- Using AI to manipulate images, figures, or research materials in a misleading manner.
- Uploading confidential, unpublished manuscripts, personal data, or sensitive research information to AI platforms without appropriate authorization and data protection safeguards.
- Using AI to conceal plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other forms of research misconduct.
5. Use of Generative AI by Reviewers
Reviewers must maintain confidentiality and independence throughout the peer-review process. Unpublished manuscripts and confidential editorial materials must not be uploaded to publicly accessible Generative AI tools or other external systems without explicit authorization from the journal and appropriate safeguards.
Reviewers must not delegate the evaluation of a manuscript to Generative AI. Any permitted AI-assisted activity must not replace the reviewer's independent scholarly judgment, and reviewers remain fully responsible for their review reports and recommendations.
6. Use of Generative AI by Editors
Editors must protect the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts, reviewer reports, and editorial communications. Confidential materials must not be entered into external Generative AI systems without appropriate authorization and safeguards.
Editorial decisions must remain under human control. Generative AI tools must not independently determine acceptance, revision, or rejection decisions. Editors remain responsible for the fairness, confidentiality, and integrity of the editorial process.
7. Editorial Assessment and Policy Violations
IJAIDS may request clarification or additional information regarding the use of Generative AI in a submitted manuscript. Undisclosed, inappropriate, or misleading use of AI may be treated as a publication ethics concern.
Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, the journal may request corrections or clarification, return the manuscript for revision, reject the submission, or take appropriate post-publication action when necessary.
8. Human Accountability
The use of Generative AI does not transfer responsibility for scholarly work from authors, reviewers, or editors to AI systems. All participants in the publication process are expected to exercise professional judgment, verify information, protect confidential materials, and uphold research integrity.
IJAIDS may periodically review and update this policy in response to developments in AI technologies, research integrity standards, and scholarly publishing practices.
