Analysis of Figures of Speech in the Lyrics of 'Roda Pedati' by Band Kapal Udara: A Stylistic Study

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the stylistics used in the lyrics of the song “Roda Pedati” (Cartwheel) by Kapal Udara, an Indie band originating from Makassar. The data source for this study is the lyrics of “Roda Pedati” by Kapal Udara, serving as the primary source, supplemented by several journal articles and other literature studies. The research method employed is a qualitative method, utilizing an objective approach technique with structural analysis. The results of the research indicate that the song lyrics utilize various figures of speech (majas) to enhance the lyrics' aesthetic appeal, making them more engaging and enjoyable for the listener. The figures of speech identified are metaphor, personification, litotes, and repetition. The successful deployment of these figures of speech constructs an aesthetically pleasing diction, effectively conveying the intended meaning.he lyrics narrate the struggle of life in achieving dreams. Life is likened to a wheel, employing the metaphor of Roda Pedati (Cartwheel) to represent the struggles of life that revolve like a wheel. Furthermore, certain parts of the lyrics use personification, wherein selected words—inanimate objects and other non-living entities—are made to appear alive and capable of performing actions exclusively done by living creatures. The personification in these lyrics significantly enhances the song's vividness. Additionally, the use of litotes and repetition further elevates the lyrics' aesthetic value in conveying the message that life must be harmonious; even upon reaching a point of exhaustion, everyone deserves a momentary rest before resuming the journey. The figure of speech repetition also emphasizes a key recurring message: “mesin dan manusia tak sejalan” (machine and man are not aligned). This seems to suggest that technology or machines are sometimes incompatible with human values, therefore necessitating a harmonization between the two.
