Abstract

This study aims to analyze the intrinsic elements in the play script RT Nol RW Nol by Iwan Simatupang, who is recognized as one of the key figures in modern Indonesian literature. The primary data source for this research is the play script RT Nol RW Nol by Iwan Simatupang, supported by several journal articles and other references. The research method used is qualitative, employing an objective approach with structural analysis. The results of the study reveal two main aspects in the script: intrinsic elements and the use of various figurative language styles. The analysis focuses on the literary building blocks: theme, plot, characters and characterization, setting, and message. The findings show that the main theme of the drama is the life of homeless people as a marginalized group struggling to survive after losing their sense of humanity. The plot follows a linear progression. The characters are portrayed symbolically, starting with the character Si Pincang, who often mocks two commercial sex workers (CSWs) named Ani and Ina, with whom he shares a living space. His sarcastic remarks are, in fact, critiques aimed at government policies. Other characters include a wise old man who frequently mediates their arguments, and Bopeng, a rough-mannered yet kind-hearted man who shows compassion toward a woman named Ati, abandoned by her fiancé at the port. The setting is under a bridge where the characters live. The message of the play centers on social criticism of a government that neglects the lower class. Furthermore, Iwan Simatupang conveys a message not to forget the marginalized and to strive toward creating a more just and inclusive society. The language style used includes metaphor, personification, hyperbole, and symbolism.
