Introduction to Computer Basics for Children in Orphanages as an Effort to Improve Digital Literacy

Abstract

The development of information technology has made computer skills one of the fundamental competencies required in daily life. However, not all children have equal opportunities to gain knowledge about computer technology, including children living in orphanages. This community service activity aimed to improve the basic computer knowledge of orphanage children through an introductory computer education program. The methods used in this activity included the delivery of introductory computer materials, explanations of computer hardware and software, as well as discussion and question-and-answer sessions. The activity was conducted through a face-to-face educational and interactive approach to facilitate participants' understanding of the presented materials. The results indicated that participants gained a better understanding of basic computer concepts, computer functions, and the differences between hardware and software. The participants also showed high enthusiasm and interest throughout the activity, reflecting their motivation to learn about information technology. This activity contributed positively to improving the participants' basic digital literacy and can serve as an initial step toward developing information technology skills in the future.
